This is a very interesting trial and the first to repeat the work of Corell and Futter in Queensland who reported in 2006 on their successful treatment of two patients who had not responded to multiple medications and ECT. They used a 5-day continuous intravenous ketamine protocol more regularly used to treat chronic pain conditions. When this current trial is published it will be important to see whether the prolonged infusion gave a more durable effect compared to the single infusion.
